The Organ Festival

In music it is called “king of the instruments”. Pipe Organ, or simply Organ, surprises your senses, by the magnificence of its boxes, richly worked, and by the enveloping sound that fills the temples.

Braga, known as the “ City of Archbishops”, is full of cultural and religious artistic examples, displaying 16th to 18th century Baroque musical splendour, that fill the churches with high quality instruments.

It is known for its many churches, and also gathers a big number of organs with historical interest, mostly from the 17th century. There is a total of 46 instruments all created in different ways which make them unique. In the last few years, due to the effort of several organizations, some of these instruments gained life making themselves heard once again. Some go unnoticed, others, like the Great organs of the Sé de Braga are referred to in encyclopaedias, magazines and are known worldwide, delighting those who see and hear them.

The Braga Organ Festival starts with the purpose of making this cultural richness known, not only the instruments themselves but also the music composed specifically for them.

In this 6th edition of the event, the Organ will be presented in different ways, so as to let the public know the various capabilities of the instrument, presented in seven different Concerts, with seven different Organs, in seven beautiful churches in Braga.

The Cathedral, the Santa Cruz church, St. Paul church, St. Marcus, "Terceiros" and others. This churches open their doors… and the Organ Music Art is inviting to attend these unique concerts.

The entrance is free.

The festival will take place from the 10th to 19th of May, with seven separate concerts and other events.
